First things first: this is not a baseball simulation game. It is an arcade-style baseball game and, therefore, is perfect for people who are not hardcore baseball fans (like me). You don’t have to worry about pitch location and bat location on your swing, you simply play arcade-style baseball, which, IMO, is why this game is so fun.
The game is not meant to be taken seriously. If you get two hits in a row, you are on fire, literally, and all of your stats increase. If you are the pitcher and you strike out three batters, you get on fire and have unlimited turbo (although it is not impossible to hit an on fire pitcher, it is all about timing). You can bean batters, either knocking them down and reducing their stats or infuriating them and having them charge the mound, making them "on fire," and increasing their stats. You can slide cleats first into a base, punch the 1st/2nd/3rd baseman or shortstop & knock the ball out of his hands, punch people to tag them out, etc. This is not meant to be a serious baseball game. It is an arcade game and, as such, is done very well. If you are looking for a serious game, I have heard that MVP Baseball 2004 if great (I have not played it b/c, as I stated before, I am into arcade-style baseball).
The bottom line: If you want a fun game that is not a baseball simulation, pick this one up. It is the type of game that you merely put into the machine and play . . . no instruction really needed. However, if sim baseball games are your thing, then get something else.

I like how simple it is to control your players, I’ve played other baseball video games and it is difficult to swing the bat!
