Lumines Plus for PlayStation 2 Lumines Plus is a new puzzle offering a higher level of challenge than the classic “falling blocks” games. Follow the lightand sound patterns and form 2×2 blocks to clear the screen before it fills up. Exclusive for PS2 owners.
Customer Review: I can see why this is a great portable game
But on a console it really loses something.
This puzzle game requires you to rotate a 2×2 block of two different colors and you clear them by creating rectangles of the same color.
Yes, the game is addicting and strangely hypnotic at times, but the selection of this particular one is terrible. The “Shinin’” mode is the best, but many other modes are lame. In fact there really isn’t much compared to both the PSP and 360. No music videos and no downloadable content.
Lumines is a great game…for your PSP.
Lumines Plus is just ok.
Customer Review: Great for newcomers, but nothing new for Lumines veterans
You may remember Lumines as being a superb puzzle game for the PSP a couple years back. Since then, it’s received a sequel on Sony’s portable system, and now two years later, it makes an appearence on the PS2. I’ll start off by saying that if you played or own the original Lumines game for the PSP that there is nothing here you haven’t seen or played before. That being said, if you’ve never played Lumines in any of it’s previous incarnations, you’ll find a highly enjoyable puzzler here. The game uses the basic match the blocks style to great effect with some sharp visuals, but the game’s music soundtrack is what’s even more worth noting. Featuring a superb dance-esque soundtrack that will have you nodding your head to the beat while you play, Lumines Plus manages to go above and beyond the standards set by typical console puzzlers. There are also different modes of play like a time attack mode and versus modes as well, but nothing else here that hasn’t been seen before in other Lumines games. What really would have been a nice addition to the game would have been some online capabilities though. I know the PS2 is on it’s way out, but this feature would have been more than welcome. That aside, if you’ve never played Lumines in any form before, Lumines Plus is a very fun, and cheap, pick up for the PS2 that you’ll get a lot of enjoyment out of, but if you’ve been to Lumines land before, there’s not much reason to go back again unless you want it to play on your console too.
