I got my PSP when they were first released, back in 2005. The advertised it with pictures of Gran Turismo Mobile everywhere, implying that it would be a release title or at least out pretty soon. I only got it for playing GT. So now it’s four (4) years later when the dammmmm game finally gets released. My PSP broke two years ago and I had no reason to fix or replace it so being released now doesn’t do me any good at all.
So this game gets only one star because it is too late to matter. Sorry, Sony… you suck.

I recently bought this game at Gamestop, and to be honest, I was a little too exited.
I popped the game in and browsed the cars, I wasn’t happy about how the car buying was made. Basically it goes like this, when you first start the game you’re on day 1, and then whenever you do a race or a license test, it goes to the next day (e.g. day 2, day 3, day 4, etc). Every one or two days, it gives you another 4 dealers to choose from. I hoped that they could just show them all at once because it took me 12 races to finally have Toyota as one of the dealers so that I could buy the Prius. Even though this limits the convenience of getting a certain car, the car selection is amazing (800 cars). First off, there are some car brands that I never even heard of, and I know alot about cars. In the car collection, there are many antique cars, like my 63′ Alfa Romeo. Old cars are good and so are the newer cars, some of the cars are even concept cars (prototypes).
The car collection is great, and an added bonus is that the cars are beautiful. The only car I could compare with a real-life counterpart is the Toyota Prius, and it looks the exact same, they even have the little “hybrid” tag on the back. The paint selection is also very good and the selection for each car is based on the selection in real life, which was great because I found the exact color of my mom’s Prius (i’m 13). Also, the statistics (e.g. height, weight) are completely accurate which lets this game double as a car encyclopedia.
My opinion about car customization was mixed. You can have 30 cars in your favourites, and you can tune those cars to you’re exact specifications (e.g., you can modify the engine’s power, the damper, the spring rate etc), you can even modify the transmittion (manual or automatic), and you can even modify the type of tire (even though there are no specified brands).
The racing is great, and unlike Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, the cars fight back if you bump them, and try to cut you off if you try to pass them. There are also 35 beatiful tracks to race in, ranging from a nice track in the city, to off-roading in a forest, and even gliding on the snow in a winter course (remember to put on you’re snow tires!). There is also license testing which is very similar to that of Gran Turismo 4, but in my opinion, better.
The ad hoc mode was very well done. Recently, one of my friends got Gran Turismo for his PSP Go – Black and we tried the ad hoc mode. First we tried a race, it was very fun, you can use any car from your garage and then you vote for a track. I especially liked that I could let him have a head start because I am much better than him:). Trading cars is great, for most of the cheaper cars, you can simply give them one and you will still have one in your garage. For more expensive cars, you can trade them. Having a Gran Turismo buddy is a huge advantage.
One huge feature about this game is synchronisation with Gran Turismo 5. Kazunori Yamauchi recently confirmed many features of Gran Turismo 5, one of them being the ability to synchronise your car collection from Gran Turismo with it, giving you a head start for when it comes out.
In conclusion, Gran Turismo is great for collecting cars, but not to good if you want a virtual career as a race driver.

This game’s graphics is as good as a PSP game can get. The races are stunning and there are lots of cars to choose from. Every 2 days there are 4 different dealers you can buy from and you can race alot and save up to get lambos or make do w/ cheaper GTRs. However, there is no story or mission mode, so this game tends to become boring after awhile. If your looking for racers that has a story than this is not yourr game, but if your interested in collecting cars or just want to race than there is no better racer than this for the PSP.

Here it is, finally, a PORTABLE racing game SO CLEAN you’d think your PSP was your plain gaming table top console. The graphics quality can be compared to that something in between Gran Turismo 4 and 5. Some white rough lines do pop-up from time to time specially during replay mode; this is probably the effects of the game reloading sector by sector the graphics at play. But at 60FPS frame rate these white lines are the only ones you’d notice as flaw of the game; once you see the cars move realistically during replay mode and game play itself, you know 60FPS results in a silky smooth no chopping appearance.
In the middle of this appreciation rating, I would consider the “sound quality” somewhere in it. Although the sounds/audio are good, Sony could have aimed for “better”. But I think this is understandable as we all know that this is a jampacked game with a little less than 1GB of data stored on a minute UMD disk or downloadable from the PS Network. For that though, I think the sound is acceptable because the graphics are astonishing enough to pay for this lacking.
One thing I would find a “better deal” is that if they could have only popped out more “car dealerships” on their menu. When you play the game you will notice that there are only 4 car brands to choose from and that they randomly change brands depending on the number of “days” you have played the game. If I remember it correctly, Ferrari came out so soon at around day 32 and with only 233765 credits on my pocket! The cars sold there were 1000000 and 8000000 respectively… so what gives?
Overall, I would still recommend this game to the die-hard video game racing fan who would love to do racing games anytime anywhere! If you love racing more under “simulation mode” rather than “arcade”, then Polyphony’s Gran Turismo is for you…
Now if you can only attach a Logitech Steering Wheel and Pedals to your PSP and then your PSP to your TV… if you know what i mean…
